New York International Auto Show 2016 Preview in 4K – NYIAS 2016

The 2016 New York International Auto Show NYIAS is open to the public at the Jacob Javits Center beginning Friday March 25th 2016.

This year we saw new car models from Audi, Lexus, BMW, Chevy, the all new Genesis brand (spin off of Hyundai), Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Toyota, Acura and more. Toyota revealed a face-lifted GT86 for the American market. This has occurred since the company is phasing out the Scion brand where this car currently resides under the FRS name.

Mazda showed of another iteration of the new Miata MX-5, the RF. This version includes a hard Targa Top. The roof retracts into a lifted rear section behind the driver and passenger. It is hard to understand unless you see it. And when you see it, you will want it.

While on the topic of convertibles, Audi released the Spyder variant of the R8 which has also been face-lifted for this year.

Lexus showcased two new coupes – the LC500 and LC500h. These are both higher end luxury coupes with the later being a hybrid version. The LC 500 sports the same v8 motor from its RC F and GS F brethren pushing 467 hp. Design cues have trickled down from the LFA into this model as we can see from the tail lights. This is definitely one of the most exciting cars Lexus has produced.

Fiat premiered its latest offering, the 124 Spider and 124 Elaborazione Abarth Spider. The Abarth edition features a sport tuned suspension, limited slip differential, Brembo brakes, Recaro seats and is equipped with a Turbocharged 1.4 liter engine pushing 160hp and 184 lb.-ft of torque. Both models should be available this summer.

Nissan’s display was nicer than their premier. Nissan exhibited its latest GT-R face-lift with a few HP digit bump over the latest model. The display around the current GT-R was every GT-R that ever existed in pristine condition. Like many, I’m waiting for the R36 to be produced.

A few honorable mentions, Bugatti has a few vehicles on display, the hand-built Spyker made an appearance, and Koenigsegg One:1 stood beside both of them.
